New Release: A Poetry Mini-Collection
The Only Poetry I Will Ever Write
Over the years, the occasional poem has spilled unto the page from my fingers. Recently, I decided to make a selection of them available in a mini-collection titled The Only Poetry I Will Ever Write.
It is perhaps the kind of child only a mother could love… but what do I, of all people, even know about love? I just hope some of them resonate with a reader or two somewhere.
Chicon 8: The 80th World Science Fiction Convention
I attended CHICON 8 (virtually ) two weeks ago (September 2-5, 2022). This 80th World Science Fiction Convention was my first time attending or participating in a con and the virtual experience was awesome enough to convince me that the next con I attend must be in-person.
I had the wonderful opportunity to read my short story, Kingdom of Lethe, to a live virtual audience. I was a panelist discussing the origin, evolution, and state of Black Speculative Poetry. I also hosted my own poetry workshop titled Imagining Bolder Possibilities Through Black Speculative Poetry.
FIYAH Literary Magazine was a nominee for the Best Semipro Zone Hugo Award. Uncanny Magazine snagged that award this year, but I was still proud to see my name on the ballot of a member of the FIYAH Literary Magazine Staff. I’m proud of our team and everything we’ve accomplished and I’m confident we’ll continue to put more award-winning and notable works out into the world.

Voodoonauts 2022 Summer Fellowship
Voodoonauts is a grassroots collective of enthusiastic Afrofuturist creators geared at fostering community and craft-nurturing among black creatives from all over the world. The brainchild of Shingai Njeri Kagunda, Yvette Lisa Ndlovu, H.D. Hunter, and L.P. Kindred, Vodoonauts seeks to remedy the under-representation and alienation that black speculative fiction writers experience in the science fiction, fantasy, and horror spheres.
The Voodoonauts Summer Fellowship is an annual workshop event that gives participants the opportunity to fully focus on their craft, learn from industry professionals and knowledgeable instructors, and commune with other black speculative fiction from all walks of life.
I had the great fortune of attending all four days of the Voodoonauts 2022 Summer Fellowship. It was a truly energizing and transformative experience. I got the chance to interact with fellow black writers from various countries and experience that rare sense of being in a safe and welcoming creative place.

You have finally reached the end, my friend.
